stars.watch ("we", "us") operates the star-claiming map at stars.watch. This policy explains what account information we collect from brands that sign up to stake a claim, and how it's used.
When you create an account we collect:
- Your email address (used to log in and to send stake-alert emails)
- A salted, hashed password (we never store your plaintext password)
- A contact name and your website/brand name
- A logo image, shown on the map next to any star you claim
When you stake a claim, we also record the star, the amount, and a payment reference from our payment processor. We do not collect or store your card details — those are handled entirely by the payment processor.
Your website name and logo are displayed publicly on the map next to any star your brand currently holds — that's the product. Your email is used for login and to notify you if you're out-staked. We don't sell or share your account data with third parties for marketing.
To show the live "visitors" and "watching" counts on the map, your browser generates a random id (stored in your browser's local storage, not a cookie, and not linked to any account) and periodically pings us to say a tab is open. We store only that random id and a timestamp — no device fingerprint or browsing history — and delete it automatically after a week.
We use a single session cookie to keep you logged in. See our Cookie Policy for details.
You can update your account details any time from your Profile page. To request deletion of your account and data, contact us using the email on file for the site.
